Over the past week or so God has been giving me a lot more peace about being here. He is slowly allowing me to feel at home and I'm even sad at the thought of leaving so soon. I have been able to connect more with students, and it seems the quickening deadline of my departure is giving them urgency to get to know me that they did not have in the beginning. Over the week I have been able to meet with 2 students outside of class to help they make up a class they missed. This has been so great to spend time with them outside of class and talk with them a bit more about their lives.
God has also provided new expat friends. I was able to go with Lily before she left to visit Night Light another org that works with prostitutes. There I met a 30 year old Canadian who has just come to Thailand to work. I will meet her tomorrow at her coffee shop ministry to talk and get to know one another. One of the other huge blessings is my new friend Emma. I was dreading Lily's leaving because I thought I would be alone in the BSC guesthouse, but Emma, a 22/23 yr old from New Zealand, moved in. She is really nice and we have clicked really well. Although our schedules are somewhat opposite, when they do coincide we will probably hang out.
Last weekend, I was also invited by my friends Ned and Wanda to go to a Chinese Thai wedding. It was really neat to see different customs and the fusion of west and east at times. The reception included a 10, count 'em 10!!, course meal. Amazing food. Good fellowship. I really had a wonderful time.
Now I am preparing to make some sweet treats for my classes that are ending next week. I've been debating which options will be cheapest for 80+ students... we shall see!!

Are your classes seriously already ending? Time is flying! I love your pictures... I can't believe you saw the king! I had to re-read it because at first I thought you were suggesting the car was "king of all cars" or something. And then i realized. Nicely done. I've never even seen a U.S. president.
ReplyDeleteYay for new friends! (sorry, this will probably be as long as an email. heh heh.) It is amazing how the Lord provides in ways that you might not even expect! I hope you learn to make some sort of cool Thai food... and then you can teach me. ha!
love (& miss) you a TON! :)
